Jeremiah (Joseph) Mather

Jeremiah, known as Joseph, was born on March 29th, 1767 in Breightmet and his baptism took place on May 17th, 1767 at Bank Street Unitarian conducted by Reverend Philip Holland.¹

Joseph's father was Jeremiah Mather and his mother was Hannah Seddon. His paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Cranwhaw. He had two brothers named Jacob and Richard. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 69 on February 7th, 1837 in Little Bolton. His burial was on February 9th, 1837 at Cockey Moor Discenting Chapel.¹

General Notes
- Jeremiah was a weaver when he married Ann in 1794
  
  In 1793 and 1813, both his marriages were at St. Peter, Bolton. His March 1813 marriage was only 2 months after his first wife died.
  
  The 1801 Breightmet Census records a population of 734 in 137 inhabited houses, two of which were occupied by Mather families. Jacob Mather had 5 and Joseph 6. There was no Jeremiah in Breightmet (or Bolton), no baptism with Jeremiah (or Jeremy) as a father, so therefore it seems likely Jeremiah was known as Joseph.
  
  In 1834, Jeremiah was Provision dealer in Brown Street, Little Bolton. John and Elizabeth and family were in Brown St in 1841, so could be related. Also, Jeremiah a Shoe Maker & Margaret Rockcliffe (55 & 40) where there in 1841.
  
  In 1837 Jeremiah Mather of Little Bolton died, as was buried at Ainsworth.
