Hannah was born in 1863 in Little Bolton.1  Hannah's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Sarah Makin.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Ellen Rigby. She had a brother and five sisters, named Samuel, Ellen, Hannah, Alice, Sarah and Clara.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven children. She had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Thomas, William, Elizabeth, Alice, Christianna, Ellen and John.
