Alice was born in 1859 in Little Bolton.1  Alice's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Sarah Makin.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Ellen Rigby. She had a brother and five sisters, named Samuel, Ellen, Hannah, Hannah, Sarah and Clara.  She was the third oldest of the seven children. She had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Thomas, William, Elizabeth, Alice, Christianna, Ellen and John.

‌Alice and Christopher were married in a religious ceremony on September 27th, 1882 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2   The family line is yet to be completed.
