Elizabeth's father was John Davies and her mother was Ann Whitfield. Her maternal grandparents were John Whitfield and Mary Tomlinson. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Joseph, Thomas, John, Mary, Sarah, Maria and Catherine. She was the second oldest of the nine children.
