Ann was born in November 1844 in Holt and her baptism took place on November 11th, 1844 in Is-y-Coed.1 2  Ann's father was John Rowland and her mother was Elizabeth Davies.  Her maternal grandparents were John Davies and Ann Whitfield. She had a sister named Mary.  She was the older of the two children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named John, Margaret and Catherine.
