Matilda de St. Hilary was born about 1137 in Field Dalling, Walsingham, Norfolk, England.  Matilda de St. Hilary's father was James de St. Hilary du Harcourt and her mother is Aveline Ales Canamor of Scotland.  Her paternal grandfather was Hasculf St. Hilary; her maternal grandfather was King Alexander ("the Fierce") I of Scotland and her maternal grandmother is Queen Sibyl Elizabeth de Failaise of Scotland. She had two sisters named Maud and Matilda.  She was the youngest of the three children.  She died on December 24th, 1193 in Buckenham, Wayland, Norfolk, England.  She was buried in Priory of Great Carbrooke, Norfolk, England.

‌Matilda de St. Hilary and William were married in a religious ceremony about 1173.  They had a son and a daughter, named William and d'Aubigny.
