Duncan, known as "the Gracious", was born in Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.  "the Gracious"'s father was Lord Crinan ('Grimus') de Isles and his mother is Princess Bethoc mac Máel Coluim of Scotland.  His paternal grandparents were Lord Duncan Mormaer de Isles & Athol and Sibyl Biornsson; his maternal grandfather was King Malcolm II of Scotland & Alba and his maternal grandmother is Aelgifu Sigurdsdotter. He had a brother and a sister, named Maldred and of Scotland.  He died  due to killed in battle (Macbeth) on August 15th, 1040 in pitgaveny.  He was buried in Iona, near Elgin, Scotland.

‌"the Gracious" and Aelflaed Sybilla were married in a religious ceremony in 1030 in Scotland.  They had two sons named Dunegal and "Ceanmor", "Longneck", "Bighead".
