Matilda was born in Boulogne.  Matilda's father was Count Eustace ("aux Gernons") III of Boulogne & Lens and her mother was Mary of Scotland.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Eustace II of Boulogne & Lens and Ida of Bouillon; her maternal grandparents were King Malcom III ("Ceanmor", "Longneck", "Bighead") of Scotland and Princess Margaret ("the Exile", "Atheling") of Wessex.  She was an only child.  She died on May 3rd, 1152 in London, England.

‌Matilda and Stephen were married in a religious ceremony in 1125.  They had two daughters named Mary and Marie.
