Robert's father was George Glendinning and his mother was Isabella J. Thomson. His maternal grandparents were Archibald Thomson and Margaret Paterson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Archie, Alexander, George, Maggie and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the six children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named George and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 77 on December 12th, 1968 in Sydney. He was cremated in Sydney.²
