Alexander's father was George Glendinning and his mother was Isabella J. Thomson. His maternal grandparents were Archibald Thomson and Margaret Paterson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Archie, Robert, George, Maggie and Elizabeth. He was the second youngest of the six children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named George and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 2 on May 10th, 1897 in Broxburn.
