Doris Eugenia Allen 
Doris Eugenia was born on December 11th, 1919 in Rogers,Texas. Doris Eugenia's father was Martin Travis Allen and her mother was Lillian Janice Giles. Her paternal grandparents were William Barrett Travis Allen and Mary Elizabeth Snider; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Milton Giles and Margaret Clementine McCowen. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Spurgeon, Sheldon C., Thelma Elizabeth, Floy and Janice Waldene. She was the second youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 81 on October 29th, 2001 in Temple,Bell Co.,Texas. She was buried on November 1st, 2001 in ValVerde Baptist Church Cementry,Val Verde,Texas,Co line between Milam and Bell Co..General Notes
Wanted to be a teacher. She did teach in a church kindergarten for a few years and she did substitute teaching for the Pasadena School District in Pasadena , Texas. My mother was a teacher of many other things. How to belive in God. How to try to follow his teachings. The main one that she taught me (LILLIE) was to try to treat others as you would want to be treated. One of the first times that I can remember this lesson was when I came home from school and question what was the big deal about black children going to school with me. I already when to school with Hispanic children. I was in High School at the time. So I must have seen that there was some thing wrong with the idea that we had to be different schools. I will admit I am not sure at that time I even knew a Black person. My father's mother was staying with us at the time and I learned from her what prejudice was at that moment . She got real mad at me and my mother. What was my mother teaching me? Didn't I know better than to think it was right to treat niggers the same as whites. At that time my mother got me out of the room and told me it was fine to feel the way I did. And I could continue to think it was right to have the same schooling in the same school. But please not to repeat my opinion to my grandmother as it just upset her. That she respected my opinion on such a big subject in such troubled times was one of the first times I realized that my mother consided me an adult with adult opinions .
From the Temple telegram News service. Dated May 27 Congressman W. R. Poage delivered the commencement address to 22 graduatin students of Rogers high school at the Methodist curch Wednesday night. Delite Baugh gave the valedictory for the class and Doris Allen the saluatory, Diplomas and cups were presented by T. W. Jocob, Superintendent. It was great that she kept her first newspaper clipping for me to find.
On Sept 20 1938 Mother's name was in a mention in a artical about "Junior College greets Students a Open House."
In the Val Verde News mother wrote that it was the 1st time to go home Nov. 26 1938. That Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ketchum ( this would be Aunt Thelma) and Doris Allen of Temple visited the M. L. Allen's Saturday night.
