Notes from Robert Allen Reed:  when Jame's father was unable to stay in Texas because he had to go back to Louisana to get the rest of the family he left Miles and James to protect the land claim and the improvements they had done. The title to a sitio of land in Warton County , Texas.  James was 11 years old and his brother was 17. James was 26 years old when he married Nancy McNutt.  She was 16.  Nancy was the daughter of Major Robet McNutt who served in In Houston army in the Battel of San Jacinto.  James served in the Siege of Bexar in 1835. He was commissioned a second lieutenant of militia in the Army of the Republic of Texas on June 2, 1837 by President of the Republic of Texas Sam Houston.  James came to the Williamson County circa 1846.  He and Nancy settle in the Hutto area.  Both Nancy and James are buried in Williamson County. In 1850 James Bud served as Justice of the Peace.  He was 39 at the time. William Barret Travis was a family friend and the family lawyer.  To honor his friend who died at the Alamo.  He named his son William Barret Travis Allen.  William must have been told many stories about his name sake because he also used the name Travis  when naming two of his sons. The first Bud Travis and his last son Martin Travis. From the source of Bounty and Donation Land Grants of Texas 1835-1888 Millery archives Gen 9764m-618, James Bud Allen is listed on page 70.  He received Bty Wnt 3610 for 320 acres  form S war on 28 May 1838 for service from 7 mar to June 1836.  320 acres in Austin City were ptd to said Allen on 22 Dec 1845.  Pat 121 Vol Abst 420 GLO File  Austin Bty 4.  also listed Received Bty Wnt 413 for 320 acres from AG on 6 May 1848 for serving in the "Seige of Bexar" in 1835. 320 acres in Williamson City were ptd to Allen on 6 Sept. 1877 . Pat 653 Vol 15 Abst 36 Glo File Mil Bty 997.  He served Wyle Martin Captain of Texas Volunteers from March 7 to June 7 1836. On May 6th. He became ill and remained incapable of performing military duty until the term of his service expired. He was honorable discharged.

This is where he joined Stephen F. Austin's First Colony. In March of 1822, he was one of the first settlers on the Colorado, near Peach Creek. He asked for approval of his land title, stating that he had a wife and eight children, four boys and four girls. He returned to the United States to get his family, but found his wife too ill to travel. He sent his two sons, Miles N. and James (Bud), back to Texas to plant a crop and drive the cattle back.
Your petitioner made frequent Applications to the Empersario & for Land for his two Sons Miles Allen and James Allen both of whom had been in the Service of there Country from its Earliest Settlement. Neither of them ware granted a foot of land for many years after we settled the Coloney. When your petitioner's Eldest son Drew one fourth League, While many other young men that came to the Country long after they Did, and never have lifted Armes in Defence of the Country had Drawn Some half Leagues some whole Leagues & while your petitioners Second son James Allen have not Drawn Any Land in the Country and has been in the Country for fifteen years, and was in the Service of his Country on the Day of the battle of San Jacinto .  8 miles point Novm. 23 1836
