Mary Elizabeth was born on September 10th, 1840 in Williamson Co. Texas. Mary Elizabeth's father was James Bud Allen and her mother was Nancy McNutt. Her paternal grandparents were Martin C. Allen and Elizabeth Vice; her maternal grandparents were Robert Blaine ,Major McNutt and Mary Polly Jackson. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William Barrett Travis, Benjamin Bud, Joseph Warren, Martha Matilda, Louisa and Eliza Jane. She has a half-brother named Winfield Scott.-
