Esther was born on May 27th, 1809 in ,Woodford County,KY. Esther's father was James Black and her mother was Abigail A. R. Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Black and Ann Spears. She had six brothers and four sisters, named David, Robert, John, Samuel, James, William, Ann Spears, Martha, Jane and Elizabeth. She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
