John William Shields

John William was born in 1846. John William's father was John Shields and his mother was Esther Black. His maternal grandparents were James Black and Abigail A. R. Taylor. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert James, Hugh Paul, Archibald Campbell, Martha Ann, Sarah Jane, Elizabeth Frances, Nancy Taylor and Susan Millen. He was the third youngest of the nine children.
