In 1851, Richard (16), was the oldest son of George Brereton.  Richard was an Ag Labourer at Cuddington Mill.

Richards marriage certificate (1853) shows his farther was George Brereton.  The family moved to Birkenhead in 1855 (after John was born).

Richard Brereton is recorded at 12 Chapel Street, beer retailer in the PO directory of 1857 (when he was only 24).

Living with his Brereton family and Eddowes's all of his married life.

In 1851, Richard (16, born Tilston) was an Al. Labourer at Cuddington Mill with his parents george and Jane and family.

In 1861, Brearton miss-spelt "Braeton" on e-census record.

In 1885, Richard is described as a Wheelwright when his son George married Mary Batho.

Im 1871, Richard and Esther (both 37) were living at 18 George Street, Birkenhead with John (17), Ann (15), Richard (13), George (10) and boarders George Eddowes (20) and Charles Harrison (25)

In 1891, Richard and Esther were at the Shropshire Inn, New Road.

Richard was a publican and had the "Bird in Hand" at 7 Chapel Street, Birkenhead.  It was a busy pub, opening at 6am so the night shift could have a drink after finishing work.

Richard retired but was still there when he died, 8th June 1904, aged 69.

According to Kelly's 1910 directory, William Brereton was a Station Master at Rock Ferry Station, but this is another William Brereton (1871-1946), a distant relative.

In 1861, a year after he married Jane, he is in lodgings, a brick layer. single in Liverpool.

In 1871, Robert, a labourer, and Jane (32 & 31) are at 95 Back Price Street, Birkenhead.  They have Jane (10), Ann (7), Mary (5) and Robert H (2).

Robert's wife Jane died in 1878 and he remarried Mary Bragger the following year.

In 1881, Robert (43) is still in Birkenhead, now a Dock Labourer, with wife Margaret (43).  He has a son William B Brereton (14) who could be a step-son.  Also present are R Brereton (13), Margaret (6) and Lizzie (11 months)
1848 - 1883 Jane Brereton 34 34 In 1848 Jane was born at Horton or Cuddington, Cheshire

24 May 1877, Jane Gregory (30, laundress) was imprisoned for two months hard labour at Knutsford House of Correction for stealing two blankets and a looking glass the property of Joseph Davidson at Monks, Coppenhall (age not perfect so may be another Jane).

Mary was a Widower by 1871.  In 1881 she was head of a large household of 16, as a Housekeeper perhaps head servant.

In 1901 Mary was with her two grandchildren, William and Lizzie Brereton.

1 Apr 1810, "Jane, daughter of Robert Hopley and Margaret his wife" was baptised

In 1831 when George and Jane were married, thier parents were witness to the marriage. George was of Harthill Parish, and Jane from Shocklach.

Jane inhereted a large sum of money and a farmhouse from her uncle Richard Richards in 1858.  Richard also had the Fish Inn, Shocklach before he retired, and possibly Jane and George took it over in the 1850s.

Jane Hopley and George had a nephew Edward Brereton, who married Frances Hopley from Broxton.
1838 - 1908 William Gregory 70 70 From the marriage record, William's father was Charles Gregory.

1 Oct 1868, William was 30 and of no occupation when he married Jane Hopley, aged 21 at Birkenhead.

In 1869, after they married, the family moved to Whitchurch where sons William Hopley Gregory and Charles were born.

In 1881, some disaster hit the family.  William went to live with his uncle, and Jane and the three younger children went to the workhouse.  Son Charles was born in Whitchurch, so he was sent to the Whitchurch Workhouse.  The girls were born in Nantwich so went to the Nantwich Workhouse with their mother Jane.

Dont confuse with other George Breretons born about 1809 and 1815 who married Martha Hildich in 1859.  Also his uncle Thomas had a son George, born 1811 (i.e. cousin).

Ann recorded George as born in 1806, so it is possible we have the wrong George, but unlikely as good links with son and family.

Unlike older brothers John and Thomas, William and George did not make a Will.
1838 - 1891 James Brereton 52 52 Is James related to our Breretons.  Well he's in Brikenhead in 1881, and in the pub/hotel trade!  James is probably unrelated, the son of Thomas Brereton and Alice.  He was aged 3 in 1841 and from Kirkdale when married.

In 1859, James (23) a Gas fitter, son of Thomas Brereton a Joiner of Kirkdale, married Ellen Aspinall.
