Marjorie was born in 1891. Marjorie's father was Joseph Sumner and her mother was Jane Brereton. Her maternal grandparents were Edward Brereton and Frances Hopley. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, Edward, Annie and Clara. She was the second youngest of the five children.
