Martha was born in March 1868 in Egerton (Malpas).1  Martha's father was Edward Brereton and her mother was Frances Hopley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and Martha Hughes; her maternal grandparents were George Hopley and Catherine Caldecott. She had six brothers and four sisters, named William, Edward, George, Hopley, Thomas, Frank, Jane, Mary, Jessie and Fannie.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 89 in October 1957 in Wrexham.2
