Stuart's father was Hopley Brereton and his mother was Esther Evans. His paternal grandparents were Edward Brereton and Frances Hopley. He had five brothers named Frank, Norman, Cyril, Thomas and Douglas. He was the youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 66 on July 19th, 1992 in Wrexham. His burial was in July 1992 in Is-y-Coed.²³
