The Isaac that died in 1927, aged 63 is another person, the son of James Mather & Elizabeth Ratcliffe of Adlington who married Jane Worsley.

Thomas was 26, single and with brother Joseph and his parents.
1806 Margaret Mather Margaret and Mary are probably from different John and Ann Mather families. 1807 Robert Welsh Robert Walsh or Welsh, probably the son of Robert and Mary, baptised in 1808.  His age varies a little over time, but always the same age as his wife Mary Mather.

In 1826, Robert, a weaver, and Mary were married at St Mary's, Deane.

In 1841, Robert and Mary (both 35) were at Buttenhouse Green, Hyde with Robert (9), Hannah (5) and William (5 mo).  They were living with Thomas Isherwood (40).

In 1851, Robert and Mary (both 41, born Edgworth) were living in Little Hulton with Robert (19). Hannah (14), Wiliiam (10), Betsey (7), Mary Ann (5) and Emma (2).

1843 Betsey Welsh 1846 Mary Ann Welsh 1848 Emma Welsh 1832 - 1884 Robert Welsh 52 52 1837 Hannah Welsh 1841 William Welsh 1831 Elizabeth Liptrot 1841 - 1844 James Lomax 3 3 1845 - 1845 Mary Anne Lomax 1834 Mary Lomax 1837 - 1898 Thomas Lomax 61 61 In 1841, Thomas, aged 4, son of James Lomax, Bleacher at Ashes was omitted, so appended to the census.

In 1871, Thomas Lomax (32)  was at Ashes, single, with both parents.

Thomas continued to live with his parents at Ashes, Breightmet  in 1871 and 1881 until they had both died.  In 1881 he was recorded as 36, but actually 44.

After 1881 there are no church marriage records for Thomas son of James Lomax. He may have married Sarah Mather or Nancy Sharples in 1882 (both Registry Office).

In 1891, There was a Thomas Lomax, waterproof manufacturer, married to Margaret in Little Bolton.  This is probably another.
1835 - 1841 James Lomax 6 6 1833 - 1855 Henry Lomax 22 22 26 July 1852, Henry married Alice Greenhalgh, an illegitimate daughter from Tonge.

Henry died in 1855, aged only 22.  In 1861, Alikce was in lodgings with no children.
1830 John Lomax WARNING: Something odd here:  John changed his name from Lomax to Openshaw.  This implies his father was Openshaw and mother Lomax and they never married. The marriage confirms this.

27 Apr 1853, John Lomax married Margaret Bradley of Tong at St Peter's Bolton.

John and Margered included "Openshaw" in  6 of their 7 children's names, (all registered as LOMAX+BRADLEY) and by 1871 they were known as John and Margaret Openshaw.  For Elizabeth Ann's 1863 baptism he is named "John Openshaw Lomax"

In 1861, John Lomax (born Tonge) and Margaret (29 & 31) were at Darcey Lever.

In 1871, John and Margaret Openshaw (39 & 40) were at Radcliffe with Emily, Elizabeth Ann, Alfred and Johnh James.
1828 Richard Lomax In 1871, Richard and Susan Lomax (44 & 43) and no children were at East Breightmet Hill.  Richard was a Dyer. 1833 - 1871 Ann Greenhalgh 38 38 Ann Greenhalgh (illegitimate) married Henry Lomax 26 July 1852.  They had two sons James and William before Henry (and son William) died in 1855, aged only 22.  Henry was a (train?) fireman, so it may have been an industrial accident.

Ann aged 22, remarried Thomas Nuttall at Radcliffe and in 1861, they had James Lomex with them (aged 8) and Sarah Nuttall, aged 1.
1852 James Lomax 1854 - 1855 William Lomax 4m 4m 1797 - 1871 Betty Mather 74 74 Betty was born in Darcy Lever and lived her adult life at Ashes in Breightmet.

WARNING - Another Betty (Crompton) wife of James Lomax of Great Bolton 34 years, was buried 25 Jul 1841.  It cant be this Betty as she gave birth in 1845 to Mary Ann.  This death was registered in Western Bolton, aged 39.
1829 Thomas Nuttall 1860 Sarah Nuttall 1830 Margaret Bradley 1855 Louisa Alice Openshaw Lomax There are 6 Alice Lomax's born in Bolton about 1855. 1857 Martha Jane Openshaw Lomax 1858 Mary Ada Openshaw Lomax 1863 Elizabeth Ann Openshaw Lomax 1861 Emily (Eva) Openshaw Lomax 1865 Alfred Openshaw Lomax 1870 John James Lomax 1828 Susannah Booth In 1861, Susannah Booth (33) was at Brookfield Heatons in Harwood, born Breightmet, the niece of James and Margaret Booth. 1864 - 1864 John Thomas Lomax 3m 3m 1865 - 1866 Josiah Lomax 8m 8m 1778 - 1855 John Mather 77 77 WARNING: There is also a John and Ann Greenwood of Great Bolton whjo married in 1781 and had over 10 children.

Probably brother of James of Darcy Lever (see Alice's baptism) and/or Samuel, a farmer of Radcliffe.

In 1823, Thomas, John's father, left one cottage in King Street, Great Bolton, to son John Mather.

In 1841, John was at Flash, Brieghtmet (60) a Farmer, living alone.

In 1851, John Mather (73, a retired farmer from Breightment) was living with his daughter Ellen (40) and son-in-law (shown as "Step-father") Joseph Phethean (48).

John's daughter Sarah was at Roscoe Fold, Breightmet, so John is probably related to Jeremy Mather.
1841 Thomas Clough 1845 Joseph Clough 1847 Robert Clough 1774 - 1822 Ann Worsley 48 48 Mary, Janes and Sarah (b. 1802-1805) must be John & Ann family from Breightmet (between Bolton & Bury) compared to the one from Bolton.  There are two Marys and two James births. Also James and Mary baptisms only one month appart.  The closest John Mather and Ann (Worsley) Marriage is in Eccles.  There are baptisms for a John and Ann family in Eccles, but that I believe this is for a John Mather Ann Derbyshire Eccles marriage. 1801 Thomas Isherwood In 1841, Thomas was 40 head of house with Robert Welsh and family with him, both cotton dressers, living at Hyde Stockport, probably closely related somehow - tbc. ~1785 Thomas Mather Thomas was an Iron Moulder when he married Mary.

Between 1806 and 1812 Thomas and Mary had 4 children baptised at St Peter's, Bolton. None of the childrens baptisms show fathers occuption, only abode " G.B." (i.e. Great Bolton).

In 1812, Mary, wife of Thomas died.  Thomas does not appear to have remarried. Instead he may have also died, aged 25, buried 4 March 1814, less that two years after his wife.  Perhaps it was suicide!  However, if this is him aged 25, he was only about 16 when he married, so this death is probably another.

In 1861, there are 5 households at the Ashes.  James and Betty (58 & 44) are still at "The Ashes" next to Ashes Farm with their son Thomas (22).  Jeremy Mather and his wife Alice (both 49) were head of Ashes Farm.  Peter and Betty Mather were also there.  Was this Betty's younger brother?
