Ruth's father was David Pendlebury and her mother was Ruth Price. Her paternal grandparents were James Pendlebury and Eliza Mather. She had six brothers and six sisters, named James, Ernest, David, Albert, Walter, Herbert, Mary, Eliza, Elsie, Ruth, Ida and Maud. She died at the age of 3 in March 1901 in Little Bolton.²
