Emily's father was William Nelson and her mother was Clara Ann Mather. Her maternal grandparents were George Mather and Mary Marsh. She had a brother and five sisters, named James, Lizzie, Annie, Clara, Ettie and Adeline. She was the oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 37 on December 23rd, 1919 in Little Bolton.²
