Matthias (Mathew) Mather

Matthias, known as Mathew, was born in 1805 in Bolton and his christening took place on January 5th, 1806 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

Mathew's father was Matthias Mather and his mother was Mary Priestley. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, George, Joseph, Edwin, Mary, Ellen, Rachel, Sophia, Rachel, Caroline and Eliza. He was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 61 on March 30th, 1866 in Southport. His burial was in April 1866 in Southport.

General Notes
- There's a marriage of Matthias (Widowed) to Ann Ironfield in 1835, but this must be another as Marcella was still alive, living in North Meols, Lancashire in 1861
  
  In 1820, Mathias Mather and Mathias Mather jnr, both moulders, are listed at Derby Sreet, Bolton (in the Bolton Trade Directory).
  
  In 1831, Mathias Mather (20) was at Howell Croft.
  
  In 1841, Matthias & Marcella (both 30) were at Derby Street, with Richard (15), Mary (13) and Mathias (10)
  
  In 1846 Matthias had the George Inn, Great Bolton (where an inquest was held). He was described as a publican when Mary married in 1847
  
  In 1851, Matthias and Marcells Mather (both 45), a landed proprietor, were living with his brother Josiah and Amelia, a Hotel Keeper, in North Meols.
  
  n 1863 Matthias was renting a house at 11 Bold Street, Oldham leasehold for 99 years. This may be another! In 1868 he is also recorded as leasing a house in Preston.
