Sophia Mather

Sophia was born in 1814 in Bolton and her christening took place on May 1st, 1814 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

Sophia's father was Matthias Mather and her mother was Mary Priestley. She had six brothers and six sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, George, Mathew, Joseph, Edwin, Mary, Ellen, Rachel, Rachel, Caroline and Eliza. She was the nineth oldest of the thirteen children. She died at the age of 60 in 1874.

  In 1830, Sophia was witness to Josiah's marriage at Wigan to Amelia Vicars
  
  The Bolton Chronical (2 Sep 1837) reported Sophia's marriage: On the 29th ult., at the Parish Church. Mr Thomas Walmsley, iron-monger, Deansgate, to Sophia, third daughter of Mr Matthias Mather, all of this town.
