In 1841, after their father died, sisters Rachel and Caroline Mather (aged about 20), were working together as F.S. at St George’s Terrace, Little Bolton for Thomas and Sophia Walmsley.
1 May 1847 Rachel Mathe or Liverpool married Richard Walmsley, an Ironmonger, at St Thomas, Liverpool.

Rachel had 7 children: Their first, Matha was born in Liverpool in 1845. The family then moved to Ormskirk where Edwin, Frederick, Mary Emma, and Caroline were born, before returning to Bolton in about 1857. They then had Sophia (1859) and Thomas (1861).
