Rachel Mather

Rachel was born in 1818 in Bolton and her christening took place on October 25th, 1818 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

Rachel's father was Matthias Mather and her mother was Mary Priestley. She had six brothers and six sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, George, Mathew, Joseph, Edwin, Mary, Ellen, Rachel, Sophia, Caroline and Eliza. She was the eleventh oldest of the thirteen children. She died at the age of 77 in 1895.

General Notes
- In 1841, after their father died, sisters Rachel and Caroline Mather (aged about 20), were working together as F.S. at St George’s Terrace, Little Bolton for Thomas and Sophia Walmsley.
  
  1 May 1847 Rachel Mathe or Liverpool married Richard Walmsley, an Ironmonger, at St Thomas, Liverpool.

  Rachel had 7 children: Their first, Matha was born in Liverpool in 1845. The family then moved to Ormskirk where Edwin, Frederick, Mary Emma, and Caroline were born, before returning to Bolton in about 1857. They then had Sophia (1859) and Thomas (1861).
