Josiah (Joseph) Mather

Josiah, known as Joseph, was born in 1810 in Bolton and his christening took place on July 15th, 1810 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

  Another Josiah was the son of William Mather of Orrell, a Labourer. The 1841 census shows this Josiah (who married Amelia in Wigan) had a brother Edwin.

Joseph's father was Matthias Mather and his mother was Mary Priestley. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, George, Mathew, Edwin, Mary, Ellen, Rachel, Sophia, Rachel, Caroline and Eliza. He was the seventh oldest of the thirteen children.

- In 1830, Josiah of Wigan married Amelia Vickers of Bolton by licence at Wigan Parish Church.
  
  In 1831, Joseph Mather of Blackburn Street was on the L.B. Poor List.
  
  In 1841, Josiah and Amelia (both 30) were living on Blackburn Street with Mary Ann V (8) and Robert V (8 mo). His brother Edwin P Mather (25) was with them.
