- n Dec 1839, the partnership between Matthias Mather and Edwin Preistley Mather, under the firm of MATHER & SON of Great Bolton, as Chemists, Drugists and Grocers was dissolved by mutal concent. Dated 11th but reported on the 21st, about 4 days after Mathias had died. Edwin probably then continued the business alone.

Edwin was born in 1816 in Bolton and his christening took place on June 9th, 1816 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

Edwin's father was Matthias Mather and his mother was Mary Priestley. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, George, Mathew, Joseph, Mary, Ellen, Rachel, Sophia, Rachel, Caroline and Eliza. He was the tenth oldest of the thirteen children. He died before 1861.

- Edwin Priestely Mather was a "Druggist, Grocers and Seedsmen" at Bolton-le-Moors in partnership with Samuel Parnell. The "Mather & Parnell" partnership was dissolved 24-Feb-1837. Edwin married Ann Rich later that year.
