John was born in July 1764 in Warrington and his baptism took place on July 8th, 1764 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1 2  John's father was John Mather and his mother was Margaret Newell.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ellen Blinstone. He had three sisters named Elen, Alice and Mary. He had an adopted brother named Peter.  He died at the age of 46 on August 7th, 1810 in Warrington.  His burial was on October 7th, 1810 in Warrington.3
