John was born in July 1764 in Warrington and his baptism took place on July 8th, 1764 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1 2  John's father was John Mather and his mother was Margaret Newell.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ellen Blinstone. He had three sisters named Elen, Alice and Mary. He had an adopted brother named Peter.  He died at the age of 46 on August 7th, 1810 in Warrington.  He was buried on October 7th, 1810 in Warrington.3

‌John and Ellen were married in a religious ceremony on August 31st, 1790 at St. Nicholas (L'pool) by Edward Binfield and witnessed by John Wright & James Turnstall?.2  They had four sons and five daughters, named Peter, Robert, John, Peter, Martha, Margaret, Alice, Alice and Ellen.  There are no more children.
