Peter was born in September 1801 in Warrington and his baptism took place on September 27th, 1801 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  Peter's father was John Mather and his mother was Ellen Cropper (Dierden).  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Margaret Newell. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Peter, Robert, John, Martha, Margaret, Alice, Alice and Ellen.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 40 in March 1842 in Warrington.2
