Martha was born in 1785 in Warrington and her baptism took place on October 2nd, 1785 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  Martha's father was John Mather and her mother was Ellen Cropper (Dierden).  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Margaret Newell. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Peter, Robert, John, Peter, Margaret, Alice, Alice and Ellen.  She was the oldest of the nine children.

‌Martha and Luke were married in a religious ceremony on June 17th, 1807 in Warrington.2   There are no children.
