Betty was born on October 18th, 1840 in Birtle and her baptism took place on November 22nd, 1840 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Betty's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Grace Wood.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Judith (Judy) Chadwick. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Joseph, John, Edwin, Robert, Mary, Sarah, Mary, Ann, Emma, Alice and Grace.  She was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 60 in October 1900 in Bury.  She was buried on October 27th, 1900 at St. Paul (Bury).2
