Mary's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Grace Wood.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Judith (Judy) Chadwick. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Joseph, John, Edwin, Robert, Sarah, Mary, Betty, Ann, Emma, Alice and Grace.  She was the second oldest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 5 in March 1837 in Bury.  She was buried on March 4th, 1837 at St. John (Bury).²
