William was born in 1831 in Broxton and his baptism took place on April 26th, 1831 at All Saints, Harthill.1 2  William's father was John Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Boote.  His paternal grandparents were William Brereton Jnr and Mary Tomlinson; his maternal grandparents were William Boot and Ann Hares. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, John, Thomas, George, Mary, William, Elizabeth and Ann.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 4 on June 28th, 1835 in Tattenhall.  He was buried on July 2nd, 1835 at St. Alban (Tattenhall).3 4
