Phebe was born on March 23rd, 1759 in NC. Phebe's father was Bowater+ Beals and her mother was Sarah Ann+ Cook. Her paternal grandparents were John II+ Beals and Sarah+ Bowater; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Cook and Mary+ Underwood. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John Bowater, Jacob+, Nathan, Ann, Ruth, Mary and Sarah Charity. She was the third oldest of the nine children.
