John Beals 
John was born in 1656 in Of, Rumbaldaweeke, Yorkshire, England. John's father was Thomas Beals and his mother was Sarah Edge. His maternal grandfather was George+ Edge and his maternal grandmother is Jane+ X. He was an only child. He died at the age of 70 on December 17th, 1726 in Nottingham, Chester, PA. He was buried in East Nottingham Friends Burial Ground, Chester Co., PA.General Notes
"John Beals was among the early immigrates to New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He most likely was one of those in the John Fenwick colony that came to Americain 1675 aboard the Griffin, and settled in Salem, NJ. He was living in Chester Co, PA by 1677, where he owned a farm along Chester Creek in Aston township in 1679. In 1704 he moved to the town of Nottingham, located in the southwest corner of Chester county. In 1709 he was appointed overseer of the Nottingham Meeting. He is supposed to have helped lay out Philadelphia. His will, written 11 Aug 1726 and proved 17 Oct 1726, names only three of his children, John, William and Mary. He was buried in the Old Brick Meeting House Cemetery located in Calvert, Maryland, just across the border and a few miles south of Nottingham. "
"Edward Byllnge, a Quaker partner of John Fenwick in West Jersey, was forced by financial difficultires to turn over his land in New Jersey to creditors. The creditors then organized the land north of Salem, NJ and sold portions of it to two Quaker groups, one from Yorkshire and the other from London. This began the Quaker immigration to the American colonies. Several members of the Beals family, all Quakers, were part of the Yorkshire group that settled in West Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania."
