Basilia was born about 1136 in Tunbridge, Kent, England.  Basilia's father was Earl Gilbert FitzGilbert ("Strongbow") de Clare of Pembroke and her mother was Isabel de Beaumont.  Her paternal grandparents were Earl Gilbert FitzRichard de Clare I of Hertford and Alice de Claremont; her maternal grandparents were Robert de Beaumont of Meulan and Elizabeth de Crepi. She had a brother named "Strongbow". She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named "the King's Son", Constance Matilda, Alix and Joan Elizabeth.  She died in England.
