Margaret was born about 1264 in Portslade, Sussex, England.  Margaret's father was Lord John de Burgh of Lanville and her mother was Cecilia de Baliol.  Her paternal grandparents were Baron John de Burgh of Lanvallei and Hawise de Lanvaley; her maternal grandparents were Regent John de Baliol I of Scotland and Dervorgilla MacDougal de Galloway. She had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Devorquilla and Hawise.  She was the second youngest of the four children.  She died in 1304.


Margaret's family with Richard ("the Red Earl") de Burgh

‌Margaret and "the Red Earl" were married in a religious ceremony before February 27th, 1280 in Lanvalay, Connaught, Ireland.  They had a son and a daughter, named John and Eleanor.
