Alice de Tonbridge was born about 1124 in Tunbridge, Kent, England.  Alice de Tonbridge's father was Lord Richard FitzGilbert de Clare and her mother was Adeliza de Meschines of Chester.  Her paternal grandparents were Earl Gilbert FitzRichard de Clare I of Hertford and Alice de Claremont; her maternal grandparents were Earl Ranulph ("de Briquessart") de Meschines III of Chester and Countess Lucy Taillebois of Chester. She had two brothers and a sister, named Robert FitzRichard, Roger and Rohese.  She was the youngest of the four children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Roger and Isobel.  She died after 1148.
