John was born about 1236 in Lanvalay, Connaught, Ireland.  John's father was Baron John de Burgh of Lanvallei and his mother was Hawise de Lanvaley.  His paternal grandparents were Earl Hubert Burgh of Kent and Heiress Beatrice de Warrene of Wormegau; his maternal grandfather was Governor William de Lanvallel III of Colchester and his maternal grandmother is Hawise Bassett.  He was an only child.  He died about March 3rd, 1279 in Lanvalay, Connaught, Ireland.

‌John and Cecilia were married in a religious ceremony in Bernard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.  They had a son and three daughters, named Thomas, Devorquilla, Hawise and Margaret.
