Baudouin was born in 1219 in Oizy, Namur, Belgium.  Baudouin's father was ArchDeacon Bouchard d'Avesnes of Laon and his mother was Margaret I of Hainault & Flanders.  His paternal grandfather was Seigneur Jacques d'Avesnes and his paternal grandmother is Adele de Guise; his maternal grandparents were Emperor Baldwin (VI) or IX of Flanders and Mary of Champagne. He had a brother named Jean.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother named Guy.  He died at the age of 76 on April 10th, 1295 in Avesnes, Pas-DE-Calais, Normandy, France.

‌Baudouin and Fbelicitbe were married in a religious ceremony about 1243 in Vervins, Aisne, France.  They had a daughter named Beatrice.
