His paternal grandparents were Robert II Scotland King and Elizabeth More Queen of Scotland; his maternal grandparents were John Drummond 11th Lord of Lennox and Mary Margaret MONTIFEX. He had three brothers and six sisters, named John, David, Robert, Margaret Princess of, Margaret, Mary, Mary, Elizabeth and Egidia. He was the youngest of the ten children.
