Robert was born in July 1243 in of Annandale,Dumfrieshire,Scotland.  Robert's father was Robert "The Competitor" Brus Lord of Annandale and his mother was Isabel de Clare.  His paternal grandparents were Robert de Bruce Baron and Isabelle Huntingdon; his maternal grandparents were Gilbert de Clare IV Earl of Gloucester and Isabel , Countess of Hertford Marshall. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Bernard, William, Richard, Isabella, Alosia and Christiana.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died before April 4th, 1304 in Holy Land,Palestine.  He was buried in Holme Abbey,Holme Cultram,Cumberland,England.

‌Robert and Margaret were married in a religious ceremony in 1271 in Turnberry Castle,Ayrshire,Scotland.  They had five sons and six daughters, named Robert I "The Bruce" King Of, Edward Earl, Nigel (Neil), Thomas, Alexander, Isabel, Christina, Mary, Maud (Matilda) (Mary), Elizabeth and Margery.
