Agnes' father was Andrew Findlay and her mother was Isobel Shaw. Her paternal grandparents were William Finlay and Agnes Hanna; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Shaw and Jean Tennant. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, James, John, Thomas, Isobel, Isabella and Agnes. She was the second youngest of the eight children. She died before 1825.¹
