Andy's father was George Fairley and his mother was Agnes (Nan) Thomson. His paternal grandparents were Henry Fairley and Margaret Grant; his maternal grandparents were Andrew Thomson and Helen Henderson. He had a brother named Harry. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 88 on September 12th, 1997 in Calgary. The funeral took place on September 14th, 1997 in Calgary. He was cremated in Calgary.³¹¹
