Helen Henderson (Hellen)

Helen was born in April 1843 in Falkirk.¹²

Birth Notes
- 18 in 1861, 38 in 1881, 48 in 1891, 57 in 1901 census, implying born between 1-Apr-1843 and 4-apr-1843.

Helen's father was Michael Henderson and her mother was Margaret Galloway. Her paternal grandparents were James Henderson and Isabel Walker; her maternal grandparents were Robert Galloway and Helen McLauchlan. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Michael, Robert, James, Alexander, John, Mary, Agnes and Isabella. She was the third oldest of the nine children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named David and Jeanie. She died due to natural causes or old age, Senile Decay, at the age of 89 on June 19th, 1932 in Broxburn. The funeral took place on June 22nd, 1932. She was buried on June 22nd, 1932 in Broxburn.³⁴⁵

  A very religious woman, would not travel on bus on Sunday. Called granddaughter Helen Henderson Thomson 'Eelen' - said "don't let them call you Nell - that's a cat's and dug's name" (source Jan McKean, 2004) According to Helen Douglas (2019), Nell did not like her grandmother.
