Stephen DeSpain

Stephen was born on February 2nd, 1799 in Green Co.,Kentucky.  Stephen's father was Peter DeSpain and his mother was Nancy Skaggs.  His paternal grandfather was John DeSpain and his paternal grandmother is Susan Scott; his maternal grandparents are Henry Skaggs and Mary Thompson. He had twelve brothers and four sisters, named John M., Hiram, William Marshall, Mark, James Simpson, Harrison, Silas, William Joseph, George Washington, Andrew Drury, Thomas, Edmund, Susanna Elizabeth, Mary, Nancy and Lucy Ann.  He was the sixth oldest of the seventeen children. He had a half-brother named William Perry.  He died at the age of 72 on November 19th, 1871 in Martinsville,Morgan Co.,Indiana.  He was buried in Spain Cemetery,Ashland Township,Indiana.

‌Stephen and Thea were married in a religious ceremony on November 8th, 1824 in Pitmans Creek,Green Co.,Kentucky.
