Esther was born on August 17th, 1902 in Birkenhead and her baptism took place there on September 3rd, 1902.1 2  Esther's father was Joseph Shipley and her mother was Ada Brereton.  Her paternal grandparents were William Shipley and Sarah Hunt; her maternal grandparents were John Brereton and Eliza (Lizzie) Batho. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Norman, Nancy, Winnie and Ada.  She was the oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 79 on October 18th, 1981 in Southampton.3

‌Esther and Sidney were married in a religious ceremony in September 1924 in New Ferry.5  They had a son and a daughter, named Norman and Elizabeth.  There are no more children.
