Joseph was born on March 25th, 1875 in Lichfield.1  Joseph's father was William Shipley and his mother was Sarah Hunt. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Arthur, Edward, Annie, Alice, (Ellen) and Emily.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 77 in March 1952 in the Wirral.2
