Edward was born on September 28th, 1886 in Lichfield.1  Edward's father was William Shipley and his mother was Sarah Hunt. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Joseph, Arthur, Annie, Alice, (Ellen) and Emily.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
