Thomas was born in September 1780 in Prescot and his baptism took place there on November 5th, 1780.1  Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Garswood.  His paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and Ann Thompson. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Ralph, William, William, William, Margaret, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, Ellen and Mary.
